The HighLights and the Low Lights, and the ISH we won't remember from the BET Awards 2010

Alright so I'm an entertainment journalist right, so it would be wise of me to put up a post of the Coon Awards 2010...I mean 2010 BET Awards :) Now valid that I don't really believe in anything BET stands for, watching the show last night and wildin' out on Twitter, I must say that it was better than I expected it to be. There were performances by Kanye, who didn't come down off his mountain during his opening act, but still killed it.
Alicia's prego self was grinding on top of a piano, Prince gave Trey Songz the screw face when Trey tried to sing one of his songs, and no one could understand Nicki as usual or her 5th Element Movie inspired outfit.

Highlights:

Hands down Chris Brown's Michael Jackson Tribute...I think that MJ was smiling in Heaven on this one ya'll...not a dry eye in the room, including Chris Brown's. Check it out below!

Prince Tribute done by Patti Labelle, Janelle Monae, Esperanza Spaudling, and Alicia Keys. These wonderful women murdered it! Patti kicked off them shoes and it was all over!

El Debarge even graced the stage, although random as hell, he proved to the audience that he still got those signature soprano pipes!

Jada Pinkett Legs- you couldn't tell she was 4 foot nothing with those short shorts and stilettos LEGS FOR DAYS! Beautiful!

Eminen's Performance-one of the hottest lyricist to touch a mic

T.I. came so strong on his performance, with Travis Barker on the drums...can't wait to get his album.

Fred Hammond, Yolanda Adams, Kim Burrel, and Kieara SHeard sing "Are you listeng" for the relief efforts in Haiti.

Queen Latifah's opening act, she straight clowned Swizz saying she hopes the baby looks like her mother, and calling out Usher for only dating women who have reached menopause. LOL Hilarious then she reminded everyone why her name begins with Queen by ripping a couple bars over Drake's "Forever" track.

Nia Long and Larenze Tate doing a throwback scene from "Love Jones".

Lowlights:

Rocsi and Terrence kissing and then f-ing up the presentation of the Viewer's Choice award...and I'm almost positive that the fan that was on stage with them had on a denim suit.

Trey Songz trying to sing one of Prince's songs. He should want to go hide under a rock after the face Prince gave him.

When Usher hit that one high note, other than he was good.

Prince's date.

Everyone's wardrobe choices...it was a frenzie of fashion faux paus! Everything from Rocsi's dress (both of them), to Derbra Lee's easter pink feather f-up, to Laura London's extra regular liquid leggings, to Monica's Bat Wings for shoulder pads to Carmello's cargo pants... I can go on and on and on.

Keyshia Cole's bangs. Still love her though :)

John Legends roller coaster of a hair line. Still love him too! Congrats on the Humanitarian award...Sidebar:... but can we raise $1.5 million for America?...last time I checked we were 1 oil spill, 1 recession, lowest unempolyment rate in years, 1 war, and 1 insubordinate general away from being a 3rd world country....just saying.

The ISH we won't remember:

Dirty Money's performance.

That Nicki Minaj tried to clown Lil' Kim...Nicki fall back you aint there yet boo...

Tyrese even graced the stage with a tribute to Teddy Pendergrass, it was good, but just not memorable.

Todd Bridges came out to say a couple kind words about Gary Coleman, and even threw in this little gem of ignorance "even when I was in jail they would say What you talking about Willis?". SMDH

Mike Epps ode to the 90's with his pager and Mecca jacket. Stupid.

None of the artists from Music Matters... because BET cut to commercial after the first 10 secs.

Any of those humanitarians who stood on display who weren't allowed to say anything while someone more famous spoke at the mic. I would like to, but I was more concerned as to why they set it up that way.

Those Travelista chicks...even though they got a sweet little gig going on.

Any of the 106th and Park pre-show performances...lackluster to say the least...with the exception of B.O.B.

Jeezy and Drake's performance surprisingly...I was sitting here like "damn they did perform huh?"

I'm sure there's more..I just can't remember the shit...if I miss anything in any of the categories... let me know in the comments below! :)

Having one of those" damn... why did that happen?" moments...

Sooo yeah that meeting I was supposed to have with the agent never happen...bugger(in my London accent).
He was flying into Atlanta and his flight was to touch down at 6pm. Six came, then 7:30pm...still no sign, I eventually hit him up at 8:30pm and that's when I got a text back saying his flight had been delayed and he was stuck in Chicago. So that was definitley a damper, but I always know that God doesn't make mistakes. It's actually a blessing for real, because it was such short notice when he asked to meet with me, I was scrambling around trying to get my songs together...I wasn't exactly prepared for the meeting to be honest<<< this is what I've come up with... hey whatever helps me sleep at night right?

My adventures and mis-adventures at the dentist

Dr. Edwards has got to be one of the coolest docs I've ever run into. This is him in my headphones since I was going to be awake during my second surgery I needed some tunes. You may or may not remember the first one about two months ago when I had all four of wisdom teeth pulled out...but it would be discovered later ( a month and half later to be exact) that a piece of my jaw bone was the culprit for my extended pain and suffereing from my extraction...that some how was missed by my original doc Dr. Jones.( Try to give the business to black folk, but you see they don't act right...just saying) I mean it was miserable! And I still actually have that piece of my bone as a "keepsake" as Dr. Edwards called it...but anyway he saved my face because if it was left in there any longer they would had to go into my jaw from the outside...thus scarring my pretty little face...I know it sounds vain..but come on have you seen my face? LOL

Lately....

Soooo I won't lie, I've been cracking under pressure a little, not enough to break but enough to constantly be wiping the sweat from my brow. It seems as though I have almost completly neglected my editorial duties for my music...which is not a total bad thing, but it does prove to be an issue when you're getting emails from one of your many editors asking "where you been Brittany? Haven't heard from you in a while..."

It's true though...I've been M.I.A and strategizing my plan of attack. I've been locking myself in my room and trying to complete a song a day like Dolly Parton or pulling a Kanye "lock ya' self in a room for three summers" ( Throw back "Drop Out, ooooh the irony)...I don't presume that it will take that long...at least I hope not. Maybe one of these days I will get back to my journalistic feats, but at this present moment, I can't make any promises...(sorry)

It's not all in vain though that's for damn sure...I got a meeting with an agent this evening about my work...but get this: he wants to try to develop me as an artist. That might tickle someone else's fancy, but I got to tell ya', being in the limelight is not quite my thing, I'd rather be in the background...like a Diane Warren. You're probably like who is that? My point exactly. You don't know her, but trust you word her lyrics if you listen to Celine Dion, Toni Braxton, any of those American Idol kids, Debarge...the lists goes on and on and on. Multiple winner of ASCAP Songwriter of year award. I believe that's my niche, either way we'll see what this dude is talking about tonight. Here'e to over turning stones no matter what they look like from an aerial view...

I wrote this a while ago and the fact that Starbucks is getting free wi-fi nationwide made me think about this ...I know, weird word association...

"THE PROBLEM WITH BEING HIGH IN THE BOOKSTORE"

The problem with being blowed and taking a trip to Barnes & Nobles is that your super paranoid and aware of everything.I convinced myself this was a good idea at home with writers block, but now that I'm sitting here without an outlet to plug up my short-lifed laptop...thinking I could've had a V-8 instead. When I'm first walking in, its like they stop me right at the door with their bargains sells. Knowing good and damn well that I don’t have money to even indulge in a bargain of any kind, as being a writer is up there in the “starving artists” category…you know, creative careers. I skim through a dead on interest cover for $9.98. Only skim tho, because I’m quickly reminding myself that’s not what I’m here for. I continue in, trying NOT to look high, but unfortunately looking anything but…

Now here’s the first challenge. Trying to find the proverbial “perfect spot “ like so many others who are too in hopes of writing the next New York Times best seller, and out of all them I wonder who will actually succeed, myself included. Peeping around every corner like inspector gadget looking for an electric outlet that won’t have me causing a hazard through the aisles, but still serve a sense of comfortability. It’s tough man. Browsing pass individuals, holding a look a tad longer for some, hoping they can’t tell if I'm high or not because I didn’t do “the check” before I got out of the car.

“None in the back, damn.” “ Guess I gotta sit in the Starbucks café”, and that sucks because no one wants to sit in the café. The seats are hard, you can hear the revving of the espresso machine, and everyone is in within arm’s reach. It’s a drag. I do a quick scan and then aimlessly walk until I see an empty chair, because at this point the comfortability factor no longer exists. This process is reminiscent of the 80’s arcade game Frogger, because while you think everyone is into their laptops and manuscripts, they’re actually still looking for a better spot to sit in, and every so often you’re a millisecond too late and they hop up and grab a seat right in front of you that you can’t believe you missed. I let out a quiet “damn” as this happens, but this means their seat is open, but you now I have to sit next the table of giddy, naïve high school cheerleaders gabbing about “The Hills”. Now you know why the other lady moved in the first place.

I try to settle in and accept my fate, but in true Frogger fashion , I do a final scan, and I wonderfully noticed an open spot against the wall where I can “peer” out into the room. I quickly gather my things as I have to move quick or else someone else will snatch it up. That’s when the embarrassing” race to the chair” scene comes into play, and if you lose, the walk of shame is tragic, especially if someone had eyed balled you when got up, and then you’re really shit out of luck and back at square one.

So we rapping now?

Yeah I actually do this ISH! :) Let me give this disclaimer: I AM NOT TRYING TO BE A RAPPER...BUT I would love to write some verses and songs for them :) In order to do that I have to put my stuff out there so people can hear, plus I'm doing a mixtape with the compilation of my songs done by underground artists in Atlanta... very exciting! So I went to my homie Gabe's house to lay down some potential songs and verses. I like to have all my stuff together before I go into the DUI studio cause that time is not cheap ok! But this is me doing a little verse over Ludacris's "My Chick Bad"...here's to shooting for the stars!
